Built a controversial career out of lecturing on and writing about progressive education with criticisms on traditional methods of managing and parenting.


He moved from Florida to Rhode Island to attend Brown University, which he graduated from in 1979.


Many behaviorists and conservatives have defended their practices against his questioning, which includes phrases such as, “Children learn how to make good decisions by making decisions, not by following directions.”
