About Alfred Mosher Butts

Best remembered as the inventor of the popular Scrabble board game, this New York-born man was also an architect and amateur artist. When he first created Scrabble, he called the game “Lexiko.”


He graduated from New York s Poughkeepsie High School in 1917 and began his architecture career during the 1920s.


New York s Metropolitan Museum of Art acquired several of his drawings.
