About Austin Mitchell

British Labour party politician who began serving in Parliament in 1977. He has stirred controversy with his misogynistic twitter posts. He is also a photographer and has co-authored Parliament in Pictures: Inside the House of Commons and the House of Lords, a photography book.


He was a professor at the University of Otago in New Zealand and at the University of Canterbury and also worked as a journalist for Yorkshire Television and the BBC.


In October of 2012, he was embroiled in a controversy regarding a tweet he directed at former MP Louise Mensch.
