While recovering from an eating disorder in a residential treatment facility, she began to formulate her patented self-help method, “The Work.”
She led numerous workshops in which she outlined her self-knowledge inquiry system, the basis of which is the idea that suffering is eliminated when people refuse to believe in the absolute truth of their thoughts.
Family Life
She was born Byron Kathleen Reid in Breckenridge, Texas. She married New York-born translator and poet Stephen Mitchell; the two co-wrote several self-help books.
