African-American political cartoonist and comic strip artist whose work appeared in the Chicago Defender.


He dropped out of high school and joined the Pullman Company as a railroad mechanic.


His first Chicago Defender comic strip was titled “The Sparks.” Later, he drew caricatures for the newspaper s arts page Accent.
