An English author of fiction for both children and adults, he is best known for his Broken Sky series and his Braided Path trilogy. His other works include Poison and The Haunting of Alaizabel Cray.


He published his first book, Crashing, when he was in his early twenties. His Broken Sky series debuted in 1999.


His novel, Poison, received the Lancashire Children s Book of the Year Award.
