About Debra Martin Chase

American film and television producer whose company, Martin Chase Productions, worked closely with Disney and ABC. She was the first African-American woman to have a solo producing deal with a major studio.

Early life

She began her career as a lawyer with her J.D. from Harvard Law School, but entered the film industry and was hired by Denzel Washington to run his production company in 1992.


She also mentored film production students at the University of Southern California and served on the Board of Trustees of Mount Holyoke College, her alma mater.

She met her husband while enrolled at Harvard Law School. They later divorced.
