About Elise Cowen

Beat Generation poet whose work was published in City Lights Journal and other prominent literary magazines. A posthumous collection of her poetry — Elise Cowen: Poems and Fragments — was published in 2014.

She attended Barnard College, where she met longtime friend and fellow beatnik poet Allen Ginsberg.

She was treated for psychosis and hepatitis at Bellevue Hospital and later ended her own life.
