About Alan Turing

Mathematician who devised a test of artificial intelligence and created an early model of a general purpose computer. During World War II he did code-breaking for the British Army and developed several techniques for breaking German ciphers.


He rode his bike sixty miles overnight, unaccompanied, so he could make it to his first day of class as a thirteen year old.


His homosexuality was considered criminal in 1952, and stunted his research on artificial intelligence.
