American supercentenarian who, at age 116, became the world s oldest person. The previous holder of that title passed away on April 1, 2015, making her the world s oldest person for a total of 5 days. 


She was born in Lafayette County, Arkansas and worked as a housekeeper.


The Mayor of Camden, Arkansas declared her personality “Gertrude Day.”
