About Hope Clarke

Known for her performances in the New York productions or Broadway tours of Don t Bother Me, I Can t Cope; Grind; West Side Story; and Hallelujah, Baby!, she also earned Drama Desk and Tony Award nominations for her choreography work in the 1992 Broadway production of Jelly s Last Jam.


Her early screen credits include roles in episodes of The Jeffersons and Good Times. She also appeared in the 1977 Sidney Poitier and Bill Cosby film, A Piece of the Action.


In the mid 1990s, she earned both a Tony Award for directing and the distinction of being the first African American choreographer and director of a professional, touring production of the classic George Gershwin opera Porgy and Bess.
