About Hugo Ehrlich

Croatian architect who took over the design of the Zagreb Stock Exchange in 1924. He was commissioned to restore the Burg Kreuzenstein while working for Humbert Walcher. He embraced eclectic mannerism following World War I.


He studied at the Vienna University of Technology with Carl König, and he was also employed by König s studio. He was hired by the Vienna-based Walcher following his graduation.


He taught architecture at the University of Zagreb.

He was born to Herman Ehrlich and Marija Eisner, a wealthy entrepreneurial Jewish family. His maternal grandfather was the Rabbi of Zagreb. He had three brothers–Adolf, Ernest, Duro–and one sister, Mira, rose to become a well-known Croatian painter. His niece was painter Marta Ehrlich.
