American competition swimmer who won five Olympic medals and set world records in the 50- and 100-meter butterfly, and the 100-meter freestyle.


He started in the 2000 Summer Olympics and almost won a bronze medal.


He set the world record in the 2005 World Aquatics Championships for the 100-meter butterfly.
