About Irene Gut Opdyke

Polish war hero who was a nurse that aided Jews persecuted by the Nazis during World War II. She saved twelve Jews during her service.


She was hired during the German occupation to work in the kitchen of a hotel and would take food to the local ghetto to help the hungry.


She published an autobiography entitled In My Hands: Memories of a Holocaust Rescuer in 1999.
