About Jesús Chávez

Former World Boxing Council Super Featherweight and International Boxing Federation Lightweight Champion who was known as El Matador.


He made his professional boxing debut in 1994 in a victory against Lewis Wood which was decided by unanimous decision.


He took on Leavander Johnson and beat him easily and severely which led to the unfortunate outcome of Johnson collapsing into a coma several days later and eventually passing away.

He was born in Parral, Chihuahua, Mexico. His family convinced him to keep fighting following the tragedy of Johnson s passing.
