About Johnny Rebel

Controversial Cajun country music singer known for his outwardly racist recordings, which were typically aimed at African-Americans. Some of his most well-known songs, the majority of which were recorded in the 60 s, were included on the 1971 compilation For Segregationists Only.

Early Life of Johnny Rebel

He first began recording under the Johnny Rebel moniker in Crowley, Louisiana during the height of the civil rights movement. His first release was the single “Lookin for a Handout”/”Kajun Ku Klux Klan”.

Several of his songs have been misattributed to other artists, including Buddy Holly, Johnny Horton and David Allan Coe.
