About Kala
Award-winning choreographer who is best known for her work in films such as Punnagai Mannan, Kochu Kochu Santhoshangal, and Chandramukhi. She also specializes in directing dance reality shows, including Maanada Mayilada for nine seasons.
She dropped out of school to pursue the film industry. She made her debut as an assistant choreographer at the age of 12 in 1982.
She choreographed the Miss World 1996 Beauty Pageant in which she received a special award of excellence. She was awarded the National Film Award for Best Choreography in 2000 for her folk dance choreography in film Kochu Kochu Santhoshangal.

She was born in Chennai, India, in a one room house with a family of seven girls. Several of her siblings have worked in the industry as choreographers or dancers. She married Venhat in 2004. They had a son together in 2007.
