About Krishna Prem

This prominent member of the Gaudiya Vaishnavism sub-movement of Hinduism established an ashram (monastery) in Mirtola, Uttarakhand, India. His published spiritual works include The Search for Truth, Initiation into Yoga, and Letters from Mirtola.


After serving during World War I in the Royal Flying Corps, he studied English, philosophy, and religion at King s College, Cambridge. Upon accepting a teaching position at India s University of Lucknow, he began his spiritual journey.


He was the first Westerner to affiliate himself with the Gaudiya Vaishnavism, and he became a greatly respected member of the organization.

Born Ronald Henry Nixon, he grew up in Somerset and Gloucestershire, England, as the son of a businessman father and a Christian Scientist mother.
