About Lamar Hunt

American sports executive who was partly responsible for the founding of the American Football League, Major League Soccer and World Championship Tennis. He is a Hall of Famer in all three sports and is the namesake of the NFL s Lamar Hunt Trophy, given to the winner of the American Football Conference each year.


He grew up in Dallas, Texas. He was a member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity at Southern Methodist University and was named Kappa Sigma s Man of the Year in 1972.


In addition to his contributions to the sports world, he is the founder of the Kansas City theme parks Worlds of Fun and Oceans of Fun.

His father is oil tycoon H.L. Hunt. He was married to Norma Hunt, his second wife, for 42 years and had children named Clark, Daniel and Sharron.
