About Mal Donaghy

Between 1977 and 1994, this Northern Irish-born soccer (football) defender played one season for Larne; ten seasons for Luton Town; four seasons for Manchester United; and two seasons for Chelsea. In addition, he played on the Northern Ireland national team during the 1980s and early 1990s.


At the start of his career, he played for the amateur teams St. Agnes and Cromac Albion.


In the 1990 to 1991 season, he and his Manchester United teammates won a European Cup Winners Cup (UEFA CWC). Earlier, with Luton Town, he had won a 1987 to 1988 League Cup.

He spent his youth in Belfast, Northern Ireland. His son, Ciaran Donaghy, became a player for the Carrick Rangers F.C.
