About Marie-Louise Meilleur

Remembered for her title as world s oldest living person, this Canadian supercentenarian lived to be 117 years and 230 days old, making her the fourth (recognized) longest-living person in history.

Born to a French Canadian family in Kamouraska, Quebec, she latter settled in Corbeil, Ontario.

Amazingly, she used tobacco products until she was well into her nineties.

Her decade-long first marriage, to Etienne Leclerc, resulted in four children who lived to adulthood. Following Leclerc s death, she married Hector Meilleur, with whom she raised another six children. At the end of her life, she was living in a nursing home where one of her sons was also a resident.

Following the death of French supercentenarian Jeanne Calment, Meilleur was recognized as the oldest person alive.
