Historian who has earned fame for his expertise on armed conflict and foreign policy. He has contributed to CNN and the Washington Post with foreign policy analysis, and saw his 2018 book The Corrosion of Conservatism named to the Washington Post s notable books of the year list.


He earned his B.A. in history from the University of California at Berkeley. He later graduated with his history M.A. from Yale University. 


He was named to Forward Magazine s 2018 list of the 50 most influential Jewish Americans. He was a senior foreign policy advisor for the presidential campaigns of John McCain in 2008 and Marco Rubio in 2015-2016.
