About Mory Kante

Guinean singer and kora harpist rose to become one of the most well-known West African musicians ever with songs like 1987 s “Ye ke ye ke.” In 2001, he was made Goodwill Ambassador of the Food and Agriculture Organization in the U.N. 

Early Life of Mory Kante

He was raised among the Mandinka people in Guinea and was a member of the group Rail Band in the early 70 s.

His biggest hit, “Ye ke ye ke,” became the first African single ever to sell in excess of one million copies.

His parents, Fatouma Kamissoko and El Hadj Djeli Fode Kante, were both well-known musicians.
