About Alexander Ovechkin

All-Star winger who in 2013 became the eighth player in NHL history to win the Hart Trophy for league MVP three times. In 2016, he became the fifth-fastest player to score 500 career goals as well as the first Russian player to tally 500 career goals. He won his first Stanley Cup Championship with the Washington Capitals in 2018.

He was selected first overall in the 2004 NHL Draft by the Washington Capitals and named to his first All-Star team in 2007. He led the NHL in goals back to back seasons with 65 in 2007-08 and 56 in 2008-09. 

His older brother Sergei, who tragically died in a car accident when Alexander was 10, originally inspired Alexander s passion for hockey. 

He and Sidney Crosby were the first overall picks in consecutive drafts and quickly became two of the game s brightest stars.
