About Rei Kawakubo
Fashion designer who founded the Japanese fashion label Comme des Garcons in 1969. Her unusual garments, sometimes described as “anti-fashion,” have made her an icon in some fashion circles.
She worked for a textile company after graduating from Keio University.
She received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Council of Fashion Designers of America in 2012.
