An American author and journalist, he is best known for his fifteen spy novels, most of which deal with the Soviet Union and the CIA. His most popular titles include The Company and The Defection of A. J. Lewinter.


After graduating from New York s Alfred University, he spent four years in the U.S. Navy.


During the Cold War years, he worked for Newsweek magazine.
