About Susan Smith

South Carolina woman who was sentenced to life in prison for the murder of her two young sons in 1994. Her arrest came after a series of dramatic, nationally-televised press conferences in which she pleaded for the safe return of her children.


She was a troubled child with an unstable home life and attempted suicide at thirteen years old.


She was transferred from one prison to another after it was discovered that she had engaged in a physical relationship with two South Carolina correctional officers.
