About Chitetsu Watanabe

Supercentenarian who gained fame as the world s oldest living man confirmed by the Guinness Book of World Records in February 2020 at age 112. He also became the oldest man from Niigata Prefecture upon his confirmation as the world s oldest man.


He worked for the Dai-Nippon Meiji Sugar company in Taiwan during World War II. 


He became the 12th Japanese man ever to celebrate his 112th birthday in March 2019. He credited his longevity to staying light and laughing.

He and his wife Mitsue shared five children. He had 12 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.
