About Derian Hatcher

Big, physical defender rose to become the first American-born captain in NHL history to hoist the Stanley Cup when he led the Dallas Stars to a championship in 1999. Drafted 8th overall by the Minnesota North Stars in 1990, he stuck with the franchise when they moved to Dallas and spent a total of 12 seasons with the team.


He played with the North Bay Centennials of the OHL before making his NHL debut during the 1991-92 season.


He was selected to his only NHL All-Star game in 1997.

His brother Kevin Hatcher also played in the NHL as a defender, and the brothers were teammates on the Stars from 1994 to 1996.
