About Milton Acorn

Canadian poet, dramatist, and author known for The Island Means Minago, I ve Tasted My Blood, and other poetry collections. He was a recipient of both the Governor General s Award and the Canadian Poets Award.


He published his debut poetic work, In Love and Anger, in 1956. A decade later, he established a Vancouver newspaper called The Georgia Straight.


He was wounded in World War II and returned to Canada, where he lived for a time at Toronto s Hotel Waverly on a disability pension.

He and his younger sister grew up in Prince Edward Island, Canada. He was briefly married to fellow poet Gwendolyn MacEwan.
