After her father left her mother to return to his legitimate family, she and her family were desperately poor.
She founded and headed her nation’s first large-scale female political party, the Female Peronist Party.
She married Juan Peron, the President of Argentina, in 1945 after meeting him at a gala in support of victims of an earthquake.
The 1996 American film Evita, based on the Andrew Lloyd Webber play, featured Madonna in the role of Peron.
