He began his acting career with an uncredited role in the 1949 film Illegal Entry.
He played primarily adventurous roles, including a Japanese sailor, a Russian doctor, and a Mexican bandito.
He was married to his second wife, Beverly, at the time of his death. He had two children named Carmen and Ricardo.
He did voice acting with Eva Gabor in the 1970 Disney classic The AristoCats.
