  1. After graduating from high school, he wanted to start his investment and entrepreneurial career. But his father overruled him and asked him to complete college education first.
  2. He had a keen interest in business and investment at a very young age and it was further fanned when at the age of 7, he read One Thousand Ways to Make $1000, which he had taken from the Omaha public library.
  3. While in high school, he was earning money from doing various jobs including delivering newspapers, selling weekly magazines, selling stamps and golf balls, and detailing cars.
  4. In his sophomore year in high school, he and his friend bought a second-hand pinball machine and placed it in a local barbershop. Within a couple of months, they had placed several such machines in three local barber shops. The business was eventually sold for $1,200 to a war veteran.
  5. He filed his first income tax return in 1944. In the tax return, he wrote $35 deduction for the use of watch and bicycle that he used for delivering papers.
  6. At the age of 14, he bought a 40 acres farm that was worked by tenant farmer with $1,200 from his savings.
  7. In 1951, he started working as an investment salesman with Buffett-Falk & Co. He worked with them till 1954. After he learned in April 1952 that his idol Benjamin Graham was a member of the board of GEICO insurance, he decided to travel to Washington, D.C.
  8. Buffett wanted Graham s advice about his desire to work with him on Wall Street. Graham like Buffett s father urged him not to. Buffett offered to work for him for free but Graham turned down his proposal.
  9. In 1954, he got an opportunity to join Benjamin Graham s partnership, Graham-Newman Corp. as a securities analyst. He worked with Graham-Newman for two years as in 1956 Graham retired and closed his firm.
  10. In 1956, he had savings of over $174,000 and he used it to establish Buffett Partnership Ltd. He worked with the firm as general partner till 1969.
  11. When he started acquiring stakes in Berkshire Hathaway in the early sixties, it was a textile manufacturing firm. After becoming the majority stakeholder, he started moving the firm into insurance sector and in 1985, the last of the mills owned by the company was sold.
  12. In 1979, the price of Berkshire shares was $775 per share. However, by the end of the year, it had increased to $1,310 and his inspanidual net worth had become $620 million.
  13. In 1988, Buffett started making one of the most iconic investments as he started acquiring The Coca-Cola Company stock. He spent $1.2 billion to acquire 7% stake in the company.
  14. In May 1990, he officially became a billionaire after Berkshire Hathaway began selling class A shares. The market closing price was US$7,175 per share.
  15. In 2008, he was declared as the richest man in the world by the Forbes magazine. His net worth was estimated at $62 billion.
  16. In his free time, he likes to relax with a game of Bridge. He reportedly spends 12 hours a week playing the game. He even sponsored a bridge match for the Buffett Cup in 2006.
  17. In April 2012, he was diagnosed with prostate cancer while undergoing a routine test. He had to undergo 44-day radiation treatment cycle to take care of his condition.
