German painter and art instructor best known for launching and hosting the PBS television programs The Art of Bill Alexander and The Magic of Oil Painting.

Early Life of William Alexander

After being drafted into the German army during the Second World War, Alexander immigrated to the United States with the help of his Allied captors, many of whose wives sat for portraits with him.

He is well known for using the wet-on-wet oil paint technique.
