American actor and frequent collaborator with director Billy Wilder including appearances in the films Irma la Douce, Kiss Me, Stupid, The Fortune Cookie, and The Front Page.


He could have chosen a much different career considering he earned a Masters in Business Administration. He also earned a Ph.D in theater history.


He guest starred on numerous television programs including Gunsmoke on multiple occasions, The Twilight Zone, and Ironside.
