About Charles Owens

Former PGA golfer who won two Champions Tours despite playing cross-handed and needing a golf cart after a parachute accident in 1952. He was inducted into the Florida Sports Hall of Fame in 1987 and the African American Golfers Hall of Fame in 2007.


He joined the PGA in 1970, and to help him overcome his putting disability, he invented a new putter, which he called the Yip Killer.


While most of the time he was allowed to use a cart in competition, in 1987 he protested the USGA s ban on carts at the Senior Open.
