About Alexa Canady
American neurosurgeon who broke a barrier in 1981 by becoming the first African-American woman to specialize in neurosurgery.
She was not even considered an adult in 1967 when she was nominated for the National Achievement Scholarship Program.
She s an accomplished all around inspanidual, winning the American Medical Women s Association President s Award in 1993, the Distinguished Service Award from Wayne State University Medical School in 1994, and became a 1989 inductee into the Michigan Woman s Hall of Fame.
