About Henri Michaux

Belgian-born French-language poet, author, and artist known for Miserable Miracle, My Properties, Mescaline, and other works. He was offered the French National Literary Prize in 1965, but he refused the honor.


He traveled all over the world and was particularly influenced by his visits to China, Japan, and India. These travels resulted in a book entitled A Barbarian in Asia.


His highly original work was given major 1978 exhibitions at both The Guggenheim Museum (New York) and The Museum of Modern Art (Paris).
